With a brick foundation 12 feet deep and 45 feet wide, the Ponce de Leon Inlet Lighthouse soars to 175 feet, one of the tallest brick lighthouses in the nation. The tower is 32 feet in diameter at the base and tapers to 12 1/2 feet at the top. The brick walls are 8 feet thick at the bottom and 1 1/2 feet thick at the top. One and a quarter million bricks were used to build the lighthouse, and the work took more than four years to complete.

Recently, on the spur of the moment, my daughter (Chelsea) and I climbed to the top in about five minutes. There are nine sets of 22 steps, each set ending up on a flat area where you can stand to catch your breath and look out one of the side windows. The view from the top was just spectacular! We will do it again soon with the camera!

We enjoyed the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse so much, we are thinking about making a tour of the State's Lighthouses.  UPDATE:  The tour has begun! We now have done Ponce Inlet several times. We also have done St. Augustine twice and now can add Key West to our list of completed lighthouses!

This is the St. Augustine Lighthouse.
We enjoyed this one too!

This one was enjoyed with my sister, nephews, nieces, daughters and more. We visited this one in July of 2002.

This is the Key West Light house. We did this one on June 8, 2003. Pictured is my son (Josh) who joined my daughter (also pictured) and me on this climb.
